Pet pass checklist: 10 most important preparations

Arranging a sitter for your dog or cat is an important step - for a vacation, weekend getaway or last-minute. With good preparation, your pet will quickly feel comfortable and the sitter will know exactly what is needed. Use the checklist below (and always plan a brief introduction beforehand).

Notice: Is your dog going somewhere boarding? Bring items such as food, basket and toys. Will the babysitting at your home? Have house rules, keys and supplies ready. At a pet sitter at home instructions about the house are especially important.

1. Feed & snacks

  • Enough food for the entire babysitting period (or prepare it at home).
  • Clear feeding instructions: how much and when.
  • Stick to your own food to avoid stomach upset.
  • Bring familiar snacks or reward kibble.

2. Allergies & health information

  • Report allergies and forbidden foods.
  • Written medication instructions (dosage, timing, storage method).

3. Leash, collar or harness

  • Good leash, appropriate collar and/or harness with name tag or phone number.

4. Toys

  • Bring favorite toys or show them where they are at home (works to reduce stress).

5. Sleeping spot

  • Basket or blanket with familiar scent; for puppies, a crate can be useful.
  • A permanent sleeping place helps your animal get used to it faster.

6. Vaccinations

  • Check that vaccinations are up-to-date and keep proof ready.

7. Animal passport & chip

  • Provide the animal passport or have it ready; note the chip number.

8. Veterinarian contact information.

  • Name, phone number and address of veterinarian; agree on what to do in case of emergency.

9. Emergency contact

  • Arrange an alternative contact for unexpected situations - gives peace of mind to everyone.

10. Additional tips & house rules

  • Clear instructions on dealing with fear, other animals, visitors and noises.
  • House rules: sleeping places, furniture, garden, alarm, keys, trash, plants.
  • Print checklist or save to your phone.
