For more than forty years Hanneke Walvis (71) surrounded by dogs. What began as walks with neighborhood quadruplets grew into a successful life as a dog sitter via Petbnb. With her two border collies and an endless love for animals, she welcomes lodge dogs to her home in Reeuwijk throughout the year.

From dog love to Petbnb babysitting
"I walked all the neighborhood dogs as a child, from shepherd to boomer," Hanneke says. She has always had dogs since 1982 and still has two border collies today. "They are active, smart and like exercise just like me. With Jazz, my youngest, I do sheep herding and sports & games. Great!"
Why she started babysitting through Petbnb
When her own dogs got older and could do less, Hanneke still wanted to stay active. "I saw Petbnb passing by when it had just started. I signed up and within a short time I was inundated with requests. I now have lodgers all year round, and I love it."

Getting acquainted: three walks for confidence
"I sometimes do as many as three introductory walks," she explains. "First where the dog lives, then with me, and then a cup of coffee. That way we get to know each other in peace. If in doubt, another walk - trust is everything."
Special moments with dogs
One of her most memorable moments? "A dog named Sam suddenly became very sick with me. We discovered bleeding from a tumor on her spleen and were able to save her life just in time. She lived well for another six months after that. You never forget moments like that." Hanneke also occasionally babysits a friend's house in France: "Sometimes I take a guest dog with me, with permission of course. They enjoy vacations as much as we do."
What Hanneke learned from babysitting
"I've learned that some owners are too sweet," she says, smiling. "Here dogs are free, but listening is important. Clarity gives peace of mind - and they like coming back, so it works!"
Favorite hiking spots
"My backyard borders the Goudse Hout, a beautiful nature reserve. But I also often walk in the Loetbos or the Weegje. And on special occasions, such as border collie walks, we go to the beach or the Drunense Dunes. Nice and early in the morning, nice and quiet."
Hanneke's tips for other babysitters
"Be flexible with drop-off and pick-up times - people really appreciate that. And trust your gut: if something doesn't feel right, don't take the dog. Be consistent, as you would be with your own dogs. And maintain contact with the owners, even after the stay. That makes it personal."
What else she wants to give Petbnb
"Actually nothing," laughs Hanneke. "Except that I would love to meet the whole team one day! Not just to discuss problems, but just to have a little fun. Maybe that will come about sometime."
In conclusion
With her warmth, discipline and endless energy, Hanneke is a sitter that dogs and owners trust immediately. Enthusiastic after this story? Check out the Petbnb ad of Hanneke and find out if she still has a spot available for your dog.
