The Golden retriever could hardly be cuter. They are incredibly popular but did you already know these five things about this breed?
1. Golden Retrievers were actually bred to find waterfowl while hunting
This, of course, is where the name "retriever" comes from which means retrieve. When a bird was shot somewhere in the distance while hunting, it was the Golden Retrievers' job to track it down and bring it back.
2. There have been as many as 2 presidential dogs in our history
Both Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan had Golden Retrievers in the White House. Hopefully they were able to relieve some of the stress of these Presidents 😉
3. The record for "most tennis balls in a dog's mouth" stands, yep, in the name of a Golden Retriever
Augie, a Golden Retriever from Dallas, has held as many as 5 tennis balls at a time. How many can your own or babysitter Golden Retriever hold at the same time?
4. Golden Retrievers have a coat consisting of 2 layers
The top layer is waterproof and wavy. The bottom layer is very soft and keeps them warm or cool during different seasons. This layer is especially useful because Golden Retrievers are also known as a breed that absolutely loves to swim.
5. Golden Retrievers are known for being able to care for other animals
Even for cats, there have been several occasions when a Golden Retriever had taken on the task of caring for them. This, of course, produces incredibly sweet images. Just check out this video...
