Is it hot and your dog wants to cool off? With these five tips, you can let your dog swim safely and leisurely. In summer, always check first where dogs are allowed to swim and pay attention to current and water quality.
1. Never throw your dog into the water
Does your dog hesitate at the water's edge? Forcing is counterproductive and increases anxiety. Let him get used to it at his own pace and reward curious behavior.
2. Find shallow water
Start in places where your dog can quietly walk in, such as a beach. Let him experience the temperature and build up step by step. If necessary, throw a toy into the water for a bit.

3. Build trust
Throw toys a little farther and farther and reward your dog upon return. If necessary, use a string on the toy so you can retrieve it. Swim only in clean, still or gently flowing water and stay away from bird nests.

4. A tub in the garden
Is open water exciting? Set up a shallow pool in the garden or on the balcony. That way your dog can still cool off safely and maintain control.
5. Dry your dog well
Prevent wet-dog smell and slips in the house by drying off your dog calmly and thoroughly with a towel. Not every dog likes to dry off: take your time and keep it positive.
