5 tips to create a nice sleeping place for your four-legged friend

Dogs love to sleep! On average, dogs spend about 12 to 14 hours a day sleeping. Puppies and older dogs sometimes even top 18 hours! While sleeping, dogs process their daily stimuli and recharge their batteries. It is therefore very important that your four-legged friend is comfortable during his resting moments. But when is your dog's sleeping place comfortable? Petbnb would like to give you some good tips to create a lovely bed for your four-legged friend!

  1. The location of the sleeping place

The location of the sleeping place determines whether or not your dog can relax. A dog needs a safe, quiet place to sleep. In this, dogs do vary greatly. Some dogs prefer to sleep with the family in the living room, while others need more privacy. So here, look mainly at the needs of the dog. If he prefers to retreat, give him a quiet place to sleep. The temperature of the sleeping place is also important. Make sure it is neither too hot nor too cold and that your dog is not in a draft.

2. Type of sleeping place

Will you choose a dog basket, a crate, a pillow, a dog bed or a rug? The choice is vast! Each type of sleeping place has its advantages. For example, a crate is a good choice for a puppy so he can retreat for a while and process all the stimuli. To create a den and to make it dark, you can put a rug over the crate. A dog basket is also a good option as a sleeping place. The rim allows your dog to rest his head and is less bothered by drafts than on a pillow. A pillow, on the other hand, can work very well for dogs who like to stretch out. As another option you always have your bed or couch. Provided you are happy with this yourself 🙂 .

3. The material of the roost

Your dog's sleeping place needs to be kept clean. To facilitate this, you can opt for a removable cushion cover or a water-repellent cushion. There are also dogs that tend to gnaw at their own sleeping place. You can take this into account by choosing sturdy material, for example. If it is very warm, you will probably find your dog stretched out sleeping on the floor. Alternatively, you can choose a cooling dog basket to keep your dog cool in the summer months.

4. The size of the sleeping area

A larger dog (speaks for itself) needs a larger sleeping space. Dogs weighing more than 35 pounds need a sleeping space of at least 90cm. Smaller dogs often have enough with a smaller pillow or basket. If you are unsure about the size of the sleeping place, you can always ask for advice at a pet store.
And... as the picture below shows; dogs are stubborn and often choose for themselves where they want to sleep on. At least the little dog got a good look at it!

5. Observe where your dog chooses his sleeping place

Well, then you have invested in a beautiful sleeping place for your four-legged friend ... but he never lies in it! This can happen, of course. Some dogs just prefer a place on the hard floor, or in your bed. Observe where your dog lies down and adjust his sleeping place accordingly. For example, you can put a blanket on the chair that you probably don't use very often anyway. If your dog likes to lie on the floor, you can opt for a blanket on the floor.
