The Samoyeed is also known as the "always smiling" dog. The fact that they also have a mega fluffy coat makes them super popular. But you need to know a few things about this goody bag, too.
1. They have super high energy
The Samoyeed was bred to drive herds of reindeer and pull sleds. So the will to work is in their genes so they need lots of outdoor activity otherwise they will quickly become bored. Trust us, you don't want a bored Samoyeed in the house. Barking and destroying objects then often occurs as a result of residual energy.
2. It is a very friendly breed
If you need a guard dog, buying a Samoyeed is not a smart plan. Their reactions when someone enters the house can vary from being super enthusiastic to looking at them quietly, but they are not super protective. This does make them extremely suitable as a family dog.
3. Hair loss.....
Of course, this comes as no surprise when you see the immense size of these dogs. This is mostly fur. If you don't want to live on a carpet of Samoyeed hair you will have to vacuum almost every day. Combing is also a daily activity for Samoyeed owners or sitters. This takes time but the love you get in return is of course priceless.
4. They can live side by side with other animals
Samoyeds generally have no problem with other animals in the house. However, it is in the instinct of these dogs to chase something. So when the cat will run away, chances are your Samoyeed will chase it. So be careful outside 😉
5. This breed is one of the oldest dog breeds in the world
The Samoyeed is one of 14 ancient dog breeds with clear genetic traces of the wolf. They belong to the Spitz family and are native to Asia. They were bred by the Samoyede people of Siberia to pull sleds, drive reindeer and hunt. According to some, the Samoyede people treated the dogs more as family members than their property.
