Indy tells, I was a stray dog

Like so many dogs here in the West, our Indy comes from abroad, from Bulgaria. Through a rescue organization she came to the Netherlands, nine months old. Lonely, scared, sick and alone. This is how she came to us, now 16 months ago.

These were 16 months of learning, watching, often frustration, despair, but also laughter, perspective, joy, amazement and growing love and trust. It was wonderful to see how Indy let go of distrust and learned how to give and receive love. How she developed and grew. She is a dog who knows how to touch me deep down, every time.
Now I always write a lot so I decided to write a book about Indy. It has become an autobiographical book, Indy tells how she sees the world from the moment she arrives in Holland. After her piece I write how the piece of training was intended. That is, especially in the beginning of the book, far apart. In the book you 'see' us growing towards each other. To give you an idea, here is a piece from Indy's book.

I don't understand them, in fact I don't understand them either although they try their best. They keep saying the same thing 'Indy' to me and rattle a tray and look at me. Then I see their teeth and that is scary. To me, seeing teeth means 'fitting in' but I don't know what for exactly, no matter how I look around me. Very strange. Walking around in their cage is also a strange feeling. They also want to touch me but I keep my distance so that they can't reach me. They do give me tasty things to eat, from the bowl they rattle......

They also go outside to walk with me all the time here, on a leash. They like it, but it bothers me and the reason is not clear to me. Sometimes I really have to pee and then only make it inside just in time. There are these skins on the floor and I do it on them. Those are for that, aren't they? It is then neatly and quickly cleaned up behind me and then they say a lot of words to me.....and I leave them then.................and lie down somewhere and then we look at each other..............

There are also stairs in the house and I had never seen that before, let alone walked up them. Was really a thing but, after walking up and down on that leash a few times, I got it. A mystery why, after the 4th time up those stairs, that woman boss landed on the ground with a bang, I only took a leap down halfway up those stairs. I stood looking at her for a bit and she looked at me too and then she said that from now on I could go down the stairs alone. Well, that seems like a good idea.....can she practice some more, without a leash......

We often have 2-footers (people called that) come here and when they don't sleep here, it's called visitors. But Kimberly again is not a visitor because she also lived here with that dog Tango who was also there when owners picked me up. I will see Tango very often because she comes to play here when Kim goes to work. She works for the police but I don't know what that is. Let's ask Tango because he seems to know. And then I had to go for a walk again, which lasted quite long but I could hold it all up. I was very happy to be back inside and relieved.

So much for a snippet from the book "Indy tells, I was a stray dog". Indy and I wish you much reading pleasure and we are already working on her 2nd book. The proceeds from her 1st book we will take to Bulgaria next summer, to the center through which Indy was taken in when she was wandering the streets. Those people there do so much good for those dogs under difficult circumstances. Of course then Indy will go with us.
