1. Bombay
Are you looking for black cats with green eyes? Then you are right with the enchanting and mysterious Bombay, the only cat breed that is exclusively black. The Bombay is a mix of the American Shorthair and the Burmese cat. It has a deep black coat similar to that of the black Indian panther. Even their foot soles are black, which is unusual for other black cat breeds.
Bombays are generally easygoing, affectionate and form a strong bond with their owners. With their short fur, they hardly shed at all and require little grooming. Bombay cats are playful and mischievous, which sometimes unfairly gives them the reputation of being aggressive.
2. York chocolate
It's no surprise if you've never heard of the York Chocolate Cat. This rare breed originated in the 1980s from a black and white farm cat. Although they are not as black as the other cats on this list, they are far too cute to pass up.
Unlike most farm cats, the York Chocolate has a glossy coat, medium-length hair, a fluffy tail and striking golden, green or hazel-colored eyes. Their silky coat is pleasantly soft and does not tangle easily, making grooming minimal. Most Yorkies are chocolate brown, lavender or a mix of these two colors. They are affectionate, cuddly and get along well with other pets and children. They can be somewhat clingy, however, as they need human attention and do not like to be left alone.
3. Oriental shorthair
With their long heads, large ears and slender legs, black Oriental shorthair cats can have a somewhat ghostly appearance. But despite their tendency to speak in a loud, hoarse voice, they are among the best cat breeds for children.
Oriental shorthair cats come in more than 300 colors and patterns, unlike the Siamese, from which the breed was developed. But we can all agree that black Oriental Shorthairs, with their shiny black fur and happy disposition, are simply stunning.
4. Persian cat
The majestic Persian cat remains one of the most popular breeds. Their flat face, lush tail and long fur are easily recognized. Although these fluffy cats come in all colors, black Persians are truly breathtaking, always impressive with their silky coats, intelligent eyes and mysterious expressions.
Interestingly, black Persian cats almost always have copper-colored eyes that seem to see through your soul. Despite their mysterious aura, black Persian cats are so relaxed that people often consider them non-intelligent. However, they are capable of learning tricks - they just don't see the point.
5. Chantilly-Tiffany
The Chantilly-Tiffany is often described as a moderate cat with no extremes, another great black cat breed with yellow eyes that will warm your heart. In addition to black, they also come in blue, chocolate, lilac, platinum and silver.
The Tiffany has semi-long hair with little to no undercoat, which is silky and soft. This is a loving and sweet cat breed that enjoys human attention without being too demanding. However, these fluffy black cats can become a bit talkative if you ignore them for too long.
6. Russian black cat
Most of you are probably familiar with Russian Blue cats, known for their unique coat color and striking green eyes. But you may not know that there is also a Russian Black Cat, bred from a Russian Blue. Some cat associations recognize only the Russian Blue in their traditional color, but others also accept Russian Blues in black and white.
Whether officially recognized or not, Russian Black Cats are magnificent animals that can enchant you with their striking green eyes and gentle temperament. They also have a soft, dense coat and shed very little, making them a hypoallergenic breed. So, if you are looking for black cat breeds with short hair, the Russian Black Cat is an excellent choice.
