Koningsdag is one of the most festive days in the Netherlands and many people look forward to it every year. Are you already in the mood for the orange outfits, red-white-and-blue flags and orange tompoucenes? Whether you participate in the festivities in your city or just stay home to enjoy the festive atmosphere, there is always room to involve your pet in this special day. In this blog, we will give you 5 tips to make a real celebration of King's Day together with your four-legged friend. Read on quickly!
- Royal treats
Treat your pet to something delicious and royal. For example, you can buy special dog cookies shaped like crowns or you can make them yourself! For example, use the recipe from a previous blog of ours for dog and cat peppernuts. Obviously you won't be making peppernuts now, but the recipe is neutral and you can use it for multiple festive occasions. You can place the batter in the shape of crowns on the baking sheet, et voilà there are the King's Day cookies!
See below for the recipe:
2. Playtime
Parties, of course, involve games! Take time to play with your pet, for example, buy a fun orange toy and test it out. Furthermore, you can also play games outdoors. Here are some ideas for outdoor games on King's Day:
- Royal scavenger hunt
Hide some orange treats or toys in the yard or park and let your pet look for them. Give him or her directions and reward him or her with a treat if he or she makes the right find.
- Orange obstacle course
Create an obstacle course in the garden or park with orange cones and other orange objects. Let your dog or cat overcome the obstacles and reward him or her with a treat.
- Orange frisbee throwing
Play together with your dog with an orange Frisbee. You can make the game more difficult by throwing the Frisbee at different distances and see how well your dog can catch it. Guaranteed a fun afternoon and healthy too!
3. Crafting in King's Day style
Make a fun craft together with your pet in the theme of King's Day. For example, you can make an orange crown or an orange cat. The perfect opportunity to bring out the Picasso in your pet (and yourself)!
4. Orange photo shoot
A fun way to create memories is to have a photo shoot with your pet. For example, take a photo of your pet next to an orange decoration or take a group photo with the whole family in front of an orange background with fun orange attributes, such as crowns, garlands, flags, you name it. Just make sure it stays fun for your pet, too!
5. Give your pet an incentive-free King's Day
If you are planning to go to an event, remember that not all pets like crowded and loud environments. If your pet is anxious, it is better to leave him or her at home in a safe and quiet environment. Provide plenty of water, food and possibly a tasty homemade royal snack :).
