5 helpful tips for getting a dog used to a sitter!

A training day for a dog is a day to see if there is a click between the dog and you as a sitter. In this way, the dog can get used to his new environment and to you, so that he can stay with you with pleasure and so that the owner can go away for a longer period without any worries. But how do you organize a successful settling-in day for the dog?

#1 Find an appropriate date for all three of you

Make sure there is not too much time between the dog's settling in day and actually staying. It is nice if the dog remembers you when he comes to stay.
Not all dogs can live together! Therefore, should you be looking after several dogs at the same time, please keep this in mind when scheduling a settling in day.

#2 Keep a steady rhythm.

A set rhythm for how you arrange a waking day is a benefit to yourself and to the dog. For example, you can make some kind of schedule with; walk, come home, drink/eat and then sleep.

#3 Ensure proper transfer of the dog

A fine handover of the dog is really an addition to a successful settling-in day. For example, you can do the handover of the dog and the owner during a walk, so that the dog is more distracted during the farewell. This will prevent the dog from spending the rest of the day waiting in front of the door where he saw his owner leave.

#4 Keep a digital diary

You can keep a digital diary for each dog; this works super well as a reminder! You can keep track of the highs and lows of the settling-in day, so you know what to expect when the dog actually comes to stay. It's also helpful to keep track of what food the dog is allowed and if there are any exceptions you need to know about before the dog comes to stay.

#5 Take pictures and share with the owner

Of course, the owner wants to be able to leave carefree, so it is very important that he trusts you as a sitter! During the training day you can take pictures of the dog and share them with the owner. For yourself it is also very nice to look back at the pictures again.

With these tips, you as a sitter can ensure an unforgettable settling-in day for you and the dog. So that both of you can have a fun sleepover time!
