A well-socialized dog feels more confident around people, dogs and new situations. Especially with puppies, this phase is essential, but adult dogs can also learn. These 5 tips will help your four-legged friend become social and relaxed.
1. Practice walking in public places
Start with short, predictable routes and repeat them so your dog can get used to smells, sounds and crowds. Use the same commands as home for recognition and safety.

2. Let your dog meet different people
Introduce your dog quietly to children, men, women and people wearing hats or glasses. Ask others to approach calmly with hands visible. Reward curiosity and relaxed behavior with a feed.
3. Go to a good puppy class
A puppy class offers controlled encounters with dogs and people. Your pup learns game rules, basic commands and body language - ideal for a social foundation.

4. Introduce new incentives gradually
Practice with hats, helmets, sunglasses, umbrellas and different vehicles such as bus, streetcar or train. Build up slowly and keep enough distance. Also change surfaces: grass, sand, woods, tiles - variety gives confidence.
5. Be patient and reward often
Don't force anything. Small steps and reward a lot prevent anxiety. End each exercise positively and respect your dog's boundaries.
