Because of their fur and limited ability to sweat, they are less able to release their heat. Use these tips to keep your dog safe and comfortable in hot weather.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color:#519b7a;\">How do you recognize overheating?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Severe panting, drooling or vomiting<\/li>\n<li>Moving languidly and looking exhausted<\/li>\n<li>Reduced appetite<\/li>\n<li>Warm ears, lips and soles of the feet<\/li>\n<li>Body temperature above 40.5\u00b0C (normal 38-39\u00b0C)<\/li>\n<li>Red mucous membranes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Call the veterinarian immediately at these signs and cool gently with water (paws, head, ears, neck). Give small sips of water; do not use ice-cold water.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color:#519b7a;\">1. Never leave your dog in the car<\/h3>\n<p>A car warms up extremely in minutes-even in mild outside temperatures. On hot days, leave your dog <em>never<\/em> in the back of the car.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color:#519b7a;\">2. Dose movement<\/h3>\n<p>Avoid long walks, cycling and intense play in the heat of the day. Protect the soles of the feet<\/h3>\n<p>Asphalt and sand get glowing hot. Test with your hand: too hot for you = too hot for your dog. Choose grass or shaded paths.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color:#519b7a;\">4. Customized coat care<\/h3>\n<p>Ask your groomer for advice and brush regularly. Some sensitive skin areas (armpit, belly, ear rims, nose, thighs) may benefit from special sunscreen for dogs.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color:#519b7a;\">5. Know the high-risk groups<\/h3>\n<p>Dogs with dark\/thick coats, brachycephalic breeds (Pug, Bulldog, Boxer), older dogs and overweight dogs are at extra risk. Always carry fresh drinking water with you<\/h3>\n<p>Hydration is crucial. Take water and a collapsible container with you on the go.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color:#519b7a;\">7. Safe swimming and water quality<\/h3>\n<p>Check where dogs are allowed to swim and watch for water quality. Blue-green algae forms quickly in warm, stagnant water and can lead to symptoms; the same goes for botulism.
