Below you can read which 10 dangerous snacks<\/strong> your dog or cat should absolutely not eat - and why. Always contact your veterinarian if you have any doubt that your pet has ingested something wrong.\n <\/p>\n

1. Chocolate<\/h2>\n

Chocolate contains caffeine and theobromine, substances that are toxic to dogs and cats. They can cause overheating, seizures and even death. The darker the chocolate, the more dangerous - so always store it out of paw reach.<\/p>\n

2. Coffee<\/h2>\n

Caffeine is stimulating in humans, but in animals it can cause serious heart problems. Just a few sips can be too much, so don't leave your cup of coffee unattended when your pet is around.<\/p>\n

3. Grapes and raisins<\/h2>\n

Grapes and raisins seem healthy, but can lead to acute kidney failure in dogs and cats. Even small amounts are dangerous. So don't leave granola bars or raisin bread lying around.<\/p>\n

4. Macadamia nuts<\/h2>\n

Although it is still unknown exactly which substance in macadamia nuts is toxic, they often cause vomiting, muscle weakness and overheating in dogs. Also beware of cookies and pastries that contain this nut.<\/p>\n

5. Onions<\/h2>\n

Onions contain thiosulfate, a substance that damages your animal's red blood cells and can cause anemia. Both raw and cooked onions are harmful - so don't feed leftover pasta sauce to your dog!<\/p>\n

6. Garlic<\/h2>\n

Garlic is slightly less toxic than onion, but has a similar effect on the blood. Even small amounts can be harmful, especially if your pet ingests it more often.<\/p>\n

Avocados contain persin, a substance that can cause vomiting and diarrhea in animals. In addition, the kernel can be a choking hazard. So don't share your avocado toast with your pet!<\/p>\n

Even small amounts of alcohol can cause liver and kidney problems. Toxicity depends on your animal's weight, but always contact your veterinarian if ingested.<\/p>\n

9. Raw meat<\/h2>\n

Raw meat can contain bacteria and parasites, such as salmonella. Only specially prepared raw pet food is safe. So always check the label before offering raw meat.<\/p>\n

10. Bones<\/h2>\n

Although dogs love to chew, bones can splinter and cause serious injury to the teeth or intestines. Rather, choose safe, specially designed chew bones from the pet store.<\/p>\n
