Today is December 5 and that means celebration! Sinterklaas is a time of coziness, pepernoten, putting shoes and of course receiving gifts. And... this year, of course, in that bag of Sinterklaas there is also a treat for your woolly friend! Treats for the holidays that humans eat are absolutely not suitable for animals. Chocolate is even very toxic for dogs. So store all treats well, so your pet can't reach them.
Luckily, we've picked out two great peppercorn recipes that you can make for your dog or cat. Just pull out your apron and bake!
Dog pepernoten recipe:
This recipe is very easy and ready within 20 minutes. Chances are you even have the ingredients in the house already! You make these peppernuts with the leftover grit from the bag of dog food. Your dog will love this recipe.
What do you need for this?
- Gruel from the dog food (you'll find this at the very bottom of the bag)
- 1 egg
- Oven
- Baking paper
- Whisk or mixer
- Beat bowl
- St. Nicholas music to get in the mood
If you can find little to no grit in the dog food, you can put some kibble in a plastic bag and use something heavy to crush it. For example, use a pan to crush the kibble.
Steps:
- Preheat your oven to 150˚C and line the baking dish with baking paper
- Put the grits in a bowl and mix with the egg using a whisk or mixer
- From the dough batter, roll small balls in your hand of +-4cm size
- Cut the balls in half
- Place the peppercorns on the baking sheet
- Bake the pepernoten in the oven for 10 minutes at 150˚C
- Let the peppernuts cool well and enjoy!
Cat pepernoten recipe:
For cats, we came up with a different recipe, since cats are huge fish lovers. This recipe is again very easy to make and takes about half an hour.
What do you need for this?
- One can of salmon (with no additives) of about 250 grams
- 250 grams of flour
- 1 egg
- Oven
- Baking paper
- Whisk or mixer
- Beat bowl
- St. Nicholas music to get in the mood
Steps
- Preheat oven to 180˚C and line baking dish with baking paper
- Puree the salmon as finely as possible
- Combine the mashed salmon, egg and flour in a batter bowl and mix until nicely combined
- From the dough batter, roll small balls in your hand of +-4cm size
- Cut the balls in half
- Place the peppercorns on the baking sheet and bake for 20 min at 180 ˚C
- Let the peppercorns cool and enjoy!
