Last week Noortje came to stay with me. Noortje is a Springer Spaniel, a very sweet doggie and also sociable. On Friday came an "emergency shelter call" for Saturday and Sunday for no less than two dogs: one the size of a Great Dane and a 15-year-old Labrador. I know these dogs very well and so was fine with them coming. Noortje, however, thought Jack, the Great Dane was quite big and was quite a bit scared.

We went for a walk right away. Jack wanted to play but Noortje didn't see that right away. But look what happened on Sunday morning. That morning I went for a lovely walk with my own dog Bikkel, Jack and Noortje for over 2 hours with the result that Jack and Noortje ran and played almost the whole walk. I enjoyed that so much and then I think: you see it always goes well (at least with me). The dogs adjust to each other wonderfully because she is just brought in in a relaxed way. You go for a wonderful walk. Even after dinner that morning they could not stop their play. Noortje was picked up at about 2 p.m. and went happily with the owner but still had to look around for Jack. And that is what I do it for, a nice time for the dog and for the owner who does not have to worry if the dog is homesick.
