There is something special about black cats that makes you think of witches and haunted houses. Maybe it's because of their glowing yellow eyes, the mysterious aura they exude, or the way black cats look at you as if they know the secrets of the universe. Black cats come in different breeds, sizes and temperaments. Let's take a look at some of our favorite breeds that look breathtaking in black.
1. Bombay

Are you looking for black cats with green eyes? Then you are right with the enchanting and mysterious Bombay, the only cat breed that is exclusively black. The Bombay is a mix of the American Shorthair and the Burmese cat. It has a deep black coat similar to that of the black Indian panther. Even their foot soles are black, which is unusual for other black cat breeds.
Bombays are generally easygoing, affectionate and form a strong bond with their owners. With their short fur, they hardly shed at all and require little grooming. Bombay cats are playful and mischievous, which sometimes unfairly gives them the reputation of being aggressive.
2. York chocolate

It's no surprise if you've never heard of the York Chocolate Cat. This rare breed originated in the 1980s from a black and white farm cat. Although they are not as black as the other cats on this list, they are far too cute to pass up.
Unlike most farm cats, the York Chocolate has a glossy coat, medium-length hair, a fluffy tail and striking golden, green or hazel-colored eyes. Most Yorkies are chocolate brown, lavender or a mix of these two colors. They are affectionate, cuddly and get along well with other pets and children - but they do like attention.
3. Oriental shorthair

With their long heads, large ears and slender legs, black Oriental shorthairs can have a somewhat ghostly appearance. Despite their loud, sometimes hoarse voice, they are social and often great with children.
Oriental shorthairs come in hundreds of colors and patterns, but the black variety is a showstopper: shiny, elegant and playful.
4. Persian cat

The Persian cat is iconic: flat muzzle, lush tail and long, silky fur. Black Persians are especially striking - often with copper-colored eyes that contrast sharply with the fur. Their character is usually calm and gentle.
Be sure to perform regular coat care to prevent tangles; a combing routine is part of the job.
5. Chantilly-Tiffany

The Chantilly-Tiffany is often described as a "moderate" cat with no extremes. She comes in blue, chocolate, lilac, platinum and silver in addition to black. The semi-long, soft coat has little undercoat and is silky to the touch.
It is an affectionate breed that enjoys human company, and can become quite talkative if you ignore her for too long.
6. Russian black cat

Most people are familiar with the Russian Blue with its unique coat and green eyes. Less well known is that there are also black variants, descended from the same line. Some associations recognize only the traditional blue color; others also allow black and white.
Whatever the status, Russian Black Cats are elegant animals with dense, pleasant to the touch fur and a gentle nature.
