Are you having one of those days where you don't know what to do? Netflix you've already played out and that one book you were supposed to start two weeks ago also just keeps lying around.... We have a great way for you to spend your time; making snacks for your dog! You have something to do and your dog has a treat. And .... Don't forget to make a snack for yourself too (using different ingredients of course)!
- Ice cream
For hot days, ice creams are the perfect cooling treat for dogs. This ice cream recipe is sure to make your dog's mouth water; a yogurt dog treat ice cream.
What do you need for this recipe:
- Ice cream containers (alternative is freezer-proof cups, or empty Danoontje containers)
- Tripe stick (do not use a plastic stick, your dog can choke on this and also it is not durable)
- Lukewarm water
- Two kinds of dog treats of different colors
- A little yogurt
Soak both types of dog treats in lukewarm water in separate containers until completely dissolved. Fill the ice holder with the soaked dog treats of one color. Put it back in the freezer and when it is almost frozen insert the tripe bar. Put the ice cream back in the freezer until it is completely frozen. Then pour a layer of yogurt over it and freeze again. Finally, pour the other colored soaked dog treats into the ice cream container and let it freeze. That's it and enjoy!
2. Cookies
We make these dog cookies with peanut butter, but only peanut butter without additives! Dogs are hypersensitive to xylitol, which is sometimes found in some peanut butter. So use peanut butter that consists only of 100% peanuts.
What do you need to bake these cookies (about 50 of them):
- 150g flour
- 150gr fine oatmeal
- 100gr peanut butter (with no additives!)
- 1 egg
- 100ml of water
Preheat the oven to 170°C and place baking paper on the baking sheet. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and make a dough. Add water if it feels a little too stiff. Roll out the dough on a work surface with some flour on it to a thickness of almost 1cm. Now you can cut your own cookies from the dough and place them on the baking sheet with some space in between. For example, make cute little figures out of the dough, like little bones or dog's heads. Put the cookies in the oven for 30-40 min. Let them cool well and enjoy!
3. Muffins
For our third recipe, we rolled up our sleeves to make carrot cheesecake muffins. Give a medium/large dog a maximum of 1 muffin per day and a small dog half a muffin.
What do you need for this recipe:
- Muffin tins
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup grated cheese
- 1 cup of carrots
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup of milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
Preheat the oven to 150°C and grease the muffin tins. Mix the whole wheat flour and cheese together and in a separate bowl beat the eggs, to this add the milk and oil and mix well. Pour the mixture over the whole wheat flour with the grated cheese and mix well. Now you can fill the baking pans three-quarters full. Bake the muffins for 20-25 minutes until done and let the muffins cool and enjoy!
